gordopacGORDOPAC was founded by saxophone player Alex Borek in March 2009 in Vienna, Austria. The bands original compositions are written in a unique contemporary Pop-style, deeply rooted in Funk, Soul and Disco, laying emphasis on passion, energy, emotionality and - the power of GROOVE.
The members are some of the coolest cats in town, all wellknown in Viennas musicscene.
Mel Verez: vocals, composing
21-year old singer, living in Vienna. Studying Jazz Vocals at Vienna Conservatory with Chris Kiselewsky. Specialized on Song writing and composing. Working as a songwriter for quite some years. She regularly takes part in the viennese funk and soul sessions, playing with Big John Whitfield, Kris Jefferson, Carl Avory and many more. Performances at Life Ball, Donauinselfest, U4 , WUK, Rote Bar and some more.
Alex Borek: tenor sax, composing
Learned to play the tenor saxophone autodidactically by listening to the great saxplayers. For quite a long time he only has one musical aim: to play the funkiest horn in town! Performances at Porgy & Bess, Ö3-Bühne Silvesterpfad, Gasometer (Joss Stone-Support) Pratersauna, Planetarium, Café Leopold, Ostklub, Luftbad, Rote Bar, Festival Montmartre with Big John Whitfield, Kris Jefferson, The Vienna Soul Society, Carl Avory, Tha Family, Ramon, Betty S., and many others.
Clemens Wabra: guitar
Studied Jazzguitar with Christian Havel. He lived for one year in San Francisco and for several years in Den Haag. With his Bas&Clem Duo he performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival. With the band Saint Privat he earned the Amadeus Award for the best Newcomer Band. He regulary works with Kris Jeffersons FSB-Session opening band.
Georgie Gruber: keyboard
Studied keyboard with Adi Rodax. Many band- and musicalprojects. Currently he works with Big John Whitfields Vienna Soul Society, Groovecafe, Freedom Warriors (feat. Hubert Tubbs), Morton, Paul Zagler Blues Band, Wolfgang Lindner jr. Orchestra and many others.
Rue Kostron: bass
Studied bass with Volker Wadauer and Werner Feldgrill. He earned a scholarship at Berklee and the Amadeus Award for the best Newcomer Band with Saint Privat. He played with
A-HA, Gloria Gaynor, Hallucination Company, Horny Funk Brothers, Stella Jones, Dorretta Carter, Hubert Tubbs, Christine Jones, Rounder Girls, Hansi Lang, Big John Whitfield, Harri Stojka, Rens Newland, Peter Legat, and many more.
Georg Beck: drums
Finished his drum studies at the Viennna Conservatory. His dedication to the groove and the ability to play for the song lead to work with people like: Louie Austen, Karl Kained, Anik Kadinski, Big John Whitfield, Dzihan & Kamien, Boris Bukowski...to name a few. Besides being a sessionplayer he is involved in song writing & consulting at the recording studio „deinemusik.at“.
